European Parliament votes to simplify hydrogen car approval.
The European Parliament has acted towards making the approval of hydrogen-powered cars a simpler process by proposing the introduction of Europe-wide criteria for safety. Currently, this varies from state to state.
The move is designed to make it easier for manufacturer’s to introduce hydrogen vehicles and for consumers’ to feel more confident about the vehicles on offer.
“The agreement in the European Parliament is a big step forward in the introduction of hydrogen vehicles. Now the EU Member States will have the final say and I hope for their support,” commented European Commission Vice-President Günter Verheugen
Some critics, however, argue against hydrogen-powered vehicles suggesting that their environmental credentials are questionable, depending on how sustainable the hydrogen source is.
